I used quicktime's built in screen record function. You can use it to capture a portion of what is on your screen with or without sound. I set up google earth to to be ready to flyover, started the recording and then clicked "go." After that I just dropped it into iMovie and added captions. My intent was to make an animated gif, but the file was too big.
